5 Reasons You Need to Start Saying Yes

5 Reasons You Need to Start Saying Yes

I went out with Julia this evening and had a great time.  Last week she received an invite from one of her Mocha Mom friends about an NBC showcase and gave Julia permission to invite friends.  When Julia messaged me, my initial response was, "Ehhh...".

I'm the type of person who likes to stay at home.  I'm a home body.  I get off work, drive to my humble abode and chill in the comfort that is mine.  Rarely do I go out and even more rarely do I go out on weeknights.  I mean I don't have a bedtime, I just don't want to be out.

Anyway, Julia sent the invite and I declined in my head.  Then I asked myself, "Why not?"  I'll be responsible for a baby soon and I'm sure my want to go out will decrease.  I had no real reason why I couldn't go with my bestie so I decided to say yes.  I checked in with Love to make sure schedules weren't conflicting and then I decided to say yes.

We get used to a routines.  A routine that doesn't allow for any spontaneity.  Sometimes it's great to get out of our comfort zones and that's why I've decided to help you out!  Here are 5 reasons why you should say yes to the next thing that comes your way.

1. You don't have an actual reason not to.

You're probably thinking that I'm so wrong right now.  That I don't know your life and how busy you actually are.  You have to run "this" and go get "that" and all while taking care of "this other thing."  Now, where I respect your time and all that you do, if you really wanted to do something you would make it happen.  Like if you got free Beyonce tickets or a 24 hour shopping spree, you would definitely find a way and squeeze these into your schedule.  Tasks would get pushed around or delegated to others but you would make it work.  It's the same necessity that would require for you to go out to eat with a friend or your other half.  We make time for what we want to.  All you have to do is to want it.

2. You deserve to enjoy life and happiness.

We tell ourselves not to do the smallest of things.  Don't eat that piece of chocolate or don't buy that blouse.  In an attempt to keep our priorities in order we kind of suck the fun out of life.  It's the little things that actually do matter and can bring a smile to your face.  I know when I'm dreading life, a piece of chocolate can always make me feel better, even if it's just momentarily.  When you say yes, you bring enjoyment into your life and everyone deserves as much happiness as they can get.

3. To experience new things.

Like I said earlier, I had no idea what this NBC showcase was about.  I kept an open mind though.  The idea behind the showcase was briefly introduced by two ladies and 8 different sketches followed.  The actors were funny and the writers did a great job.  I have a small like for acting and tonight took me back to my middle school and high school drama classes.  I had a good life and enjoyed myself all of which wouldn't have happened if I shut down the idea of going from the beginning.  A normal Wednesday night is me at home on my computer writing posts and texting Love until he comes home from work.  This show was an excellent upgrade of a night in comparison.

4. Tomorrow isn't promised.

Yeah, a little morbid but always true.  You never know what could happen tomorrow which is why you should take advantage of today.  Who know, I could go into labor tomorrow and tonight would have been my last night out for a bit.  I hope that isn't the case but we never know.  Say yes more often and take advantage of the time you have here on this earth.  Take advantage and spend it with the people that care about you.

5. What's the worst that can happen?

Oh no, you said "Yes" and now the world is going to end!!  ...But it won't.  I promise.  The only thing that will happen when you say yes is it will get you out of your comfort zone and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.  As long as the activity or treat doesn't harm you or anyone else, it will probably only work to your benefit.

After the show was over, I took advantage of the free food and then dipped.  I was tired, it was ridiculously hot with all of the extra bodies and I had job to do before calling it a night.

I can honestly say that I am glad I got out of the house tonight, I'm glad I got to experience something new and I'm glad that I got to do it with my bestie.

Now, be honest, what was the last thing that you said yes to?  Did you enjoy it?  Let us know in the comments below!
